Brits ‘generous’ in 2005
January 1st, 2006
Consumers in the UK have showed unprecedented levels of compassion and generosity in 2005, it has been revealed.
Research on behalf of the Red Cross has revealed that almost eight in ten Brits made a donation to an emergency appeal this year following numerous natural disasters and terrorists attacks in the last 12 months.
In addition, 75 per cent of those who said they had donated to an appeal this year claimed they were likely to donate again in the near future. The Red Cross said this attitude showed that high levels of generosity and understanding were prevalent in the UK.
Matthias Schmale, international director at the British Red Cross said: “These survey findings confirm what we have known for a while - that the British public have been consistently generous this year when faced with disasters and emergencies be they thousands of miles away such as the tsunami or closer to home such as the London bombings.”
This comes as online search engine Yahoo! announced the launch of its Cyber Giving Week this week in recognition of the growth in online charitable donations in line with increases in internet banking facilities.
